Alex Tuan is currently a rising senior at the Eastman School of Music under the guidance of Professor Joseph Johnson. His other primary mentors include Professor Guy Johnston and Professor Victor Coo. In the recent two years, Alex has received cello masterclasses and lessons from Tamás Varga, Eduard Sistek, Christoph Croisé, Annette Jakovcic, and Pablo Mahave-Veglia. Alex has also participated in chamber music performance with Christoph Croisé and Annette Jakovcic last year in Estonia at the Hiiumaa Homecoming Festival. He recently also made his Carnegie Hall debut in Weill Hall in March of 2025. In his earlier years, he played as principal cellist for both Idyllwild Summer Symphony Orchestra Intensive in July 2019 and Prague Summer Nights in 2023. He had also performed his cello recital at the Eslite Performance Hall of Taipei in 2020 and performed in a masterclass with the Telegraph Quartet in 2020. Regarding music awards, Alex has won 1st place in Taiwan Music Competition in 2020, 2nd place in Excellence Music Open Competition of Taiwan in 2021, 1st place of 2024 Charleston International Music Competition, 3rd prize winner of American Virtuoso International Music Competition in 2024, 1st prize winner of Golden Classical Music Awards in 2025, as well as a finalist in Music International Grand Prix of 2025.
