Alina Ying is a cellist from Rochester, New York, currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree in cello performance at DePaul University. She is a student of Dr. Melissa Kraut, whom she studied with previously at the Cleveland Institute of Music. Alina is a graduate of the Eastman Community Music School, where she received a Diploma in Cello with Honors and studied with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra’s principal cellist, Ahrim Kim. Alina has performed as a soloist with various orchestras, including the Rochester Philharmonic. Previously, she served as the principal cellist of the Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, with whom she performed in various venues, such as the Kennedy Center. She has also been selected as principal cellist of various All-State orchestras. Chamber music is another important musical outlet for Alina. She was previously part of the Scholarship Chamber Music Program at the Hochstein School of Music in Rochester, NY, where she played in multiple string quartets and piano trios. She has worked with members of the Emerson and Ying Quartets, as well as various members of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, including concertmistress Juliana Athayde. During summers, Alina has been selected numerous times to participate in the Bowdoin International Music Festival in Brunswick, Maine, and the Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival, in Burlington, Vermont.
