Alison Chung, a Glenbrook North High School sophomore, began her musical journey at the age of six, studying under esteemed violin instructors Betty Haag-Kuhnke and Yonghee Hong-Park. Alison was recognized for her exceptional talent and was awarded the Paul Galvin Foundation talent scholarship at the Betty Haag Academy of Music. She continues to refine her artistry under the tutelage of the renowned violinist Desirée Ruhstrat.

Alison has performed at prestigious venues like the Chicago Symphony Center, Carnegie Hall, and Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon, Portugal. She shares her talent with the community through performances at libraries, senior living centers, and churches.

At the age of 14, Alison made her solo debut with the Northeastern Illinois University Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Dr. Benjamin Firer at the Chicago Chamber Music Festival Concerto Competition winner’s concert. In May 2024, she showcased her talent as a soloist with the Glenbrook Symphony Orchestra, emerging as a winner of their concerto competition.

Her accomplishments extend to winning various prizes and accolades in competitions, including the Granquist Music Competition, Sejong Music Competition, Chicago Youth Philharmonic Orchestra Concerto Competition, Northbrook Youth Solo Recital Competition, and the Music Festival in Honor of Confucius.

She has also engaged in masterclasses with esteemed musicians such as Vadim Gluzman, Ilya Kaler, Robert Chen, Pasha Sabouri, John MacFarlane, Stephanie Jeong, Blaire Milton, and I-Hao Lee.

Beyond her musical achievements, Alison is an avid reader and painter, and she passionately shares her musical knowledge with younger students. She is also an active member of the GBN Girls Golf Varsity team, playing a key role in their victory at the 2023 State Championship.
