BEATRICE VALENZUELA is a 12-year old violinist from Wilmette, IL, who studies with Desirée Ruhstrat and Timothy Hager.

She is currently a member of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras (CYSO), Philharmonic Orchestra under Dr. Kenny Lee. She was Concertmaster for the Debut Orchestra during her first season with CYSO in 2021. She is also a fellow for the Chicago Musical Pathways Initiative (CMPI).

Beatrice has participated and won various awards in local and national competitions and has performed at the Grant Park Music Festival, Harris Theater, Pick-Staiger Concert Hall at Northwestern University and at Paul Hall at the Juilliard School.

She is a frequent participant of masterclasses with renowned musicians from orchestras around the country, as well as recording artists. Beatrice served as the understudy to the Young Fiddler for the Lyric Opera of Chicago’s 2022 production of Fiddler on the Roof, and was also part of the the 2023 production of the opera Jenüfa.

Beatrice is an active chamber musician and a member of her middle school orchestra as a cellist. She also participates in various music intensives and workshops nationally. Last summer, she was a student at the Heifetz International Music Institute in Staunton, VA and the Sphinx Performance Academy at the Juilliard School in New York, NY. For summer 2024, she will be at Ascent Music and will be returning to the Sphinx Performance Academy at Juilliard.

When she is not immersed in music, she enjoys horseback riding and alpine skiing, participating in local programs in musical theater and dance, and softball. Beatrice is fluent in French and Spanish, and is in her third year of studying German.
