At 15 years old, Hugh Choi is an accomplished cellist who began his musical journey at the age of 9. He currently studies under Dr. Rylie Harrod and Dr. Seulki Lee.
A dedicated ensemble player, Hugh has been a member of the Austin Youth Orchestra (AYO) since 2020 and recently had the honor of performing alongside the University of Texas Symphony Orchestra as part of the AYO Symphony Orchestra. He also plays with the Westlake High School Symphony Orchestra, which appeared in the 2025 ASTA National Orchestra Festival. Additionally, he has been selected for the TMEA All-Region Orchestra every year since 2021.
Hugh has participated in esteemed summer programs that have further shaped his artistry and leadership. He has earned honors and scholarships at the Texas String Festival (2022) and Texas State University String Camp (2023), and has performed in the Midwest Young Artists Conservatory Summer Festival Orchestra (2023), Ascent International Cello Festival (2024), and Texas Cello School (2024).
Outside of music, Hugh enjoys playing ice hockey and officiating games as a USA Hockey official, demonstrating his dedication and versatility both on and off the stage.
