Joshua Kang is 15 years old and lives in Williamsburg, VA. He began playing cello at the age of six with Mrs. Susan Hines and currently studies with Mr. Michael Daniels. He has participated in summer programs including the Heifetz Junior Summer Music Institute, Ascent International Cello Festival, International Cello Institute, and the orchestra program of the National Symphony Orchestra Summer Music Institute.
Joshua has received top honors in competitions including Williamsburg Youth Orchestra concerto competition, Williamsburg Music Club, York River Symphony Orchestra concerto competition, Hampton Roads Philharmonic concerto competition, and the Virginia Music Teachers Association concerto competition. He placed in the upper chairs of the Virginia All-State Orchestra each year.
Joshua is a member of the Tidewater Cello Ensemble, Williamsburg Youth Orchestra, Jamestown High School Orchestra, and has the privilege of playing piano and cello periodically with his church worship team. He is currently the principal cellist and a Student Ambassador for Williamsburg Youth Orchestra and has served as the assistant coach for the WYO summer chamber music camp.
Joshua has studied piano since the age of five and received Honorable Mention at the 2022 Eastern Virginia Music Teachers Association competition. Outside of music, Joshua enjoys learning about the classics and is a member of the Jamestown High School tennis team. He serves at his church nursery as a volunteer in the toddler room.
