Mercedes Stratton

2024 Cello Festival

Mercedes Stratton, age 17, started her cello studies at the age of 10 and is a student of Ken Freudigman, Principal cello of the San Antonio Philharmonic Orchestra.

Mercedes has attended several summer music festivals, including the Sphinx Performance Academy at Juilliard, the Philadelphia International Music Festival, Interlochen Arts Camp, the Ascent Cello Festival, and the Madeline Island Chamber Music Festival.

At the Philadelphia International Music Festival, she participated in their annual concerto competition, where she received second in her age division. Additionally, Mercedes has won the Outstanding Soloist Award at the UIL Texas State Solo and Ensemble Competition.

In October of 2023, Mercedes participated in the Cuban American Youth Orchestra Student Ambassador program where she spent a week in Havana, Cuba studying with Professor Melissa Kraut. Mercedes studied and performed with the students of the Amadeo Roldan Conservatory in central Havana.

Mercedes will be attending the San Francisco Conservatory of Music in the fall of 2024 as an undergraduate cello performance major studying under Professor Richard Aaron.
