Pei Wu Derek Chen is a violinist with the Nosremé Quartet. He started playing violin at the age of 8. In 2013, he appeared as a soloist for the first time, performing Vivaldi’s Violin Concerto with the Changhua Philharmonic at the age of 11. He is currently pursuing his bachelor of music degree at the Peabody Conservatory under the tutelage of the renowned violinist Judith Ingolfsson.
Pei Wu served as the concertmaster of the Changhua Children String Orchestra and the Changhua Philharmonic from 2013-2014. He was awarded the first prize of the National Piano Quintet Music Competition consecutively during 2016-2017. Additionally, Pei Wu was selected as one of the members of 2017 NTSO (National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra) International Youth Orchestra and performed as the youngest musician.
Noticed for his tremendous passion for music, Pei Wu was later invited and sponsored by the city government to hold his first violin recital at the City Hall.
Recent musical awards Pei Wu received include the Grand Prize of the 2023 American Soloist International Music Competition and the second prize of the 2022 String Avenue International Competition, where he was invited to perform the winner’s concert at the Hall of the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra. Pei Wu is the winner of the VI Rising Star Competition held by the Peabody Taiwanese Alumni Association.
In the coming summer, Pei Wu will be traveling with the Nosremé Quartet to the inaugural Texas Chamber Music Institute, where they have been named the quartet-in-residence. Pei Wu will also be joining the PRISMA Music Festival on a full-scholarship.
