Rony Castro is a freshman attending the UMKC conservatory for a Bachelors in Cello Performance
He started playing the cello when he was 15 years old in August of 2021. He lived in Guatemala before moving to the U.S. to attend School.
He graduated from Dodge City High School and while he was in high school he got accepted to the Kansas All State Full Orchestra in 2023 and 2024. He received Honorable Mention at the 2024 KASTA Competition junior division, 2nd prize for the Wichita Symphony Youth Talent Competition and 1st place for the Delano Chamber Orchestra Concerto Competition. He has attended the Sunflower Music Festival and Heartland Chamber Music Festival. His former teachers include Quinn Lake from the Wichita Symphony and Susie Yang from the Kansas City Symphony. He is now under the tutelage of Professor Michael Mermagen.
