Born into a musical family, Summer has been exposed to beautiful music from a very young age. Beginning her cello studies with Lisa Collins at the age of 7, Summer quickly progressed and has blossomed into a serious young artist.
Summer is the first prize winner of the Castro Concerto Competition and won both second and third prizes at the Santa Fe Symphony Concerto Competition. She is also the recipient of the Rising Star award from the 2021 Jackie McGehee Young Artists’ Competition for Strings. In the same year she was selected through a national audition process to perform at the 43rd annual Kennedy Center Honors in Washington D.C. to honor the violinist Midori. During her senior year she was awarded the principal cellist position with the All-State Symphony Orchestra, which is composed of the best student musicians in the state of New Mexico.
Summer is an active church musician and has performed for her church since she was 8 years old.
She studies with renowned local musician James Holland who has helped her refine her technique. During the summer breaks she attends the Ascent International Music Festivals where she studies with top music pedagogues and plays chamber music with high-level students from across the world.
She will be attending the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music in the fall and is the recipient of the Hoffman Honors Scholarship.
Summer aspires to be a member of a professional string quartet and wants to pursue a Doctor of Musical Arts degree.
