Theodora Bowne

2024 Cello

Theodora Bowne, aged twenty two, first began playing cello at the age of five, and recently graduated from Miami University (Ohio) where she pursued a degree in cello performance studying with Dr. Sarah Kim.  A native of Cleveland, she studied extensively with Rachel Bernstein and Pamela Kelly, and was a member of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra and the Contemporary Youth Orchestra, and a frequent participant in programs provided by the Cleveland Cello Society and the Cleveland Composer’s Guild. Theodora has attended several summer festivals including Boston University Tanglewood Institute, the Indiana University Summer String Academy, the Cincinnati Young Artists Virtual Seminar, Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival,  the Aronson Cello Festival, and the  Ascent Cello and Chamber Music Festival, where she has studied and played in master classes with Hans Jørgen Jensen, Melissa Kraut, Mihail Jojatu, Susan Moses Bloom, Csaba Oncsay, Amir Eldan, Mark Kosower, Natasha Brofsky, and Alan Rafferty. Previously at Miami University, she was the only string contestant to place in the Geoffrey P. Hall Undergraduate Competition her freshman year as first runner up, and later won the competition in spring of 2023. She was also the winner of Cincinnati Three Arts Scholarship and a repeat winner of the annual Miami University Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition in spring of 2022 and 2024. In her free time, Theodora enjoys working out, outdoor activities, and spending time with friends. Theodora will pursue her Master’s studies at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of Richard Aaron.
