Masterclass: Richard Aaron

Monday June 10th, 7:00pm

Described as a “sought-after professor of cello whose methods of teaching have garnered global acclaim,” Richard Aaron is a professor of cello. He has served at the University of Michigan and at the Juilliard School since 2006 and 2007, respectively. In fall 2024, he will join the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.  Prof. Aaron will work with some of the talented Rising Artists of the Ascent International Cello Festival.

Astrid Schween Masterclass

Tuesday June 11th, 1:30pm

Cellist Astrid Schween has gained a rich following and enjoys a varied career as a soloist, chamber artist and teacher. Since joining the Juilliard String Quartet in 2016, she has appeared at many of the world’s great concert halls.  Prof. Schween will work with some of the talented Rising Artists of the Ascent International Cello Festival.

Faculty Recital: Toke Møldrup

Tuesday June 11th, 7:30pm

The Ascent International Cello Festival Concert Series opens with Danish cellist Toke Møldrup & Chinese pianist Jiao Sun taking you through the world of fantasy and fairy tales.  The program culminates with Rachmaninoff’s epic Sonata!

Acclaimed as “A star” (New York Times), “Tomorrow’s man” and even a “A consummate perfectionist on the cello” (Politiken), Danish cellist Toke Møldrup has performed across Europe and the United States, South America, Australia, the Middle East and Asia for two decades.  Prof. Møldrup will work with some of the talented Rising Artists of the Ascent International Cello Festival.

The world-class faculty of the Ascent International Cello Festival join forces for a program of solo and cello ensemble works that will take you around the world.  Program to include works by Casarrubios, Bruch, Villa-Lobos and more!

Thursday June 13th, 1:30pm

Dr. Melissa Kraut is recognized as one of the leading pedagogues of her generation. Having developed and trained some of the outstanding young musicians of today, Dr. Kraut has demonstrated a unique ability to teach all ages and stages of dedicated students, helping them reach their highest potential both at and away from the cello.  Dr. Kraut will work with some of the talented Rising Artists of the Ascent International Cello Festival.
