Cellist David Popper wrote his Requiem for Three Cellos as a dedication to the memory of a longtime colleague. Inspired by living through the tragedy of WWII, Shostakovich composed his 2nd Piano Trio, a monumental and moving work that is as relevant today as the day it was written. The program concludes with Dvorak’s epic Piano Quintet featuring Dvorak’s signature use of folk music inspired by the music of his homeland. The masterpiece ends with a moment that can only be described as the feeling of coming home. Ascent dedicates this performance to all those who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
